Top 7 tips when applying for a passport renewal

• Remember you can renew your passport at any time. Time left on an existing passport is added to your new one - up to a maximum of 9 months, so make sure you plan ahead. The busiest times for the Passport Office is between April and August during this period processing times maybe be as long as 6 weeks.


• Make sure you use a black ballpoint pen to fill in your application form.


• Send original documents. Photocopies of documents will cause delays to your application.


• If you are sending multiple renewal applications, make sure all the applications in one envelope.


• Make sure your photographs meet the set standards.


• Make a note of the barcode number from the front of your application form, as this will be used to track the progress of your application once you have sent it to us.


• Send the correct passport renewal fee.
